Borage
Borago officinalis - A cheerful, easygoing herb that brings bright blue flowers and a fresh, cooling flavour to summer gardens. Its edible blossoms are perfect for salads, drinks and garnishes, and it also makes an attractive, bee-friendly addition to beds and borders. Prefers full sun, light, well-drained soil and steady moisture, and often self-seeds to return year after year. Works especially well planted near strawberries, tomatoes and squash. The bright blue, edible flowers have a soft cucumber-like taste. Borage has been cultivated for centuries both as a decorative edible flower and as a much-loved plant for pollinators.
Key Uses: Edible flowers, salads, drinks and bee friendly planting.
Growing conditions: Full sun, light soil and steady moisture, often self seeds.
Companion notes: Excellent near strawberries, tomatoes and squash.
